Candle Care

A little care helps your candle burn cleaner, last longer, and smell wonderful. Here's how we burn ours at home.

Your first burn

Let the candle burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the container. A good rule is about one hour for every inch of width. This helps stop "tunneling," where the wax burns down the middle and leaves a ring on the sides.

Trim the wick

Before each burn, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. A short wick gives you a steady flame and less smoke.

Keep burns to about 3 to 4 hours

Burning much longer can overheat the container and make the wick mushroom. Let the candle cool completely before you light it again.

Place it safely

  • Burn it on a flat, heat-safe surface.
  • Keep it away from drafts, curtains, and anything that can catch fire.
  • Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.

When to stop

Stop burning when about 1/2 inch of wax is left at the bottom. When you put it out, let it cool before moving it.
